Last Rewatch: 7/7/2019 - 21/12/2020 / Current Rewatch: 2023/09/01 -
Arriving on Abydos with his team, O'Neill meets up once again with the scientist, who has discovered a giant elaborate cartouche in hieroglyphics.
All signs point to the fact that this is a map of many Stargates that exist throughout the galaxy - a development that makes the dream of the SG-1 team to travel throughout the universe in time a reality.
(Plot: IMDb)
Stargate SG-1 started out in 1997, the decade of SCI-FI on TV, although at this moment it is certainly going well also for SCI-FI on TV. Stargate SG-1 was given something which does not happen to often! They just not get a pilot or even a first season, 44 episodes were ordered at once to air on Showtime. So 2 seasons.
After that Stargate SG-1 again was renewed by 2 more seasons which was remarkable even though the show did well. This happened mid 1998, so the second season hadn't been aired yet. Showtime renewed it for another season, season 5, when they decided they no longer wanted SG-1 on their schedule .
Sci-fi channel picked the show up for a 6th season and the plan was that season 6 was it's last season. But the ratings did do well and Sci-fi channel decided to renew at the last minute. Same for season 7, the plan was that this would be the last season but again Sci-Fi Channel picked the show up for an 8th season and so on.
There almost was an 11th season of Stargate SG-1. They were very close with Apple TV to conclude a deal and it would have happened if Sci-Fi Channel had given their approval, but they didn't. They cancelled Stargate SG-1 after it's 10th season but they didn't want another network, channel, streaming service to have it! (video). The show has finally been released on (upscaled) Blu-ray! Unfortunately currently only available in North America.
Plot:
General Hammond summons Colonel Jack O'Neill out of retirement to embark on a secret rescue mission. O'Neill confesses that he disobeyed orders to destroy the Stargate on Planet Abydos, and that scientist Daniel Jackson may still be alive.

Hi Doug, same here! I love almost all sci-fi, even the bad one! :-) Really appreciate the visit and the comment! Hope you like it enough for another visit now and then!
Love it all! Ever since the sixties Sci fi , the outerlimits, Irwin Allen's shows, then Star Trek, and still going at 67, with new shows that bring out the kid in me!
