Not so long ago, 4-6 months or so, I was under the impression that TV shows rarely got a Blu-ray release. A DVD release was usually the only physical release we got in the last few years! But in the lately it seems that this is changing again in our favor! Even 4K releases become more and more a possibility for TV shows.

The Man Who Fell to Earth - Blu-ray Release!

2023/03/08

  • Release date US: January 10, 2023
  • Region code: Region A (B & C untested)
  • Subtitles: None
  • Soundtrack: English: DTS 5.1
  • Resolution: 1080p
  • Number of discs: 3
  • Studio: CBS

I have to say I didn't know about this release until last night, when I was scrolling through the Blu-ray.com website when I stumbled on this release. I didn't see this one coming but still am pleasantly surprised it happened. The price, on March 8th, 2023, is $35.98 which is kind of expensive for 10 episodes but if you live in North America, you have less shipping costs, no customs costs so in that case, it perhaps is affordable . Another downside to this release, it appears to not have English subs.

I really like the show, was disappointed it got cancelled after only one season, still, If I recall correctly, the ending was something I could live with, but to be honest I am not sure.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season One - 4K release!

2023/02/24

  • Release date US: May 16, 2023
  • Region code: Region Free (4K is region free)
  • Subtitles: English SDH & French
  • Soundtrack: English, French
  • Number of discs: 3
  • Studio: Paramount

Well this is the first Star Trek series to get a 4K release! It will behind approximately 2 months after the Blu-ray / DVD release. Even though I don't have a 4K TV yet I still am in doubt myself weather or not to pre-order but it seems this is a pure 4K release, no standard Blu-ray's added.  It is also a limited release so If you want it, be sure to order it as soon as possible.

This is also a steelbook release, no standard issue announced and because it is advertised as limited, it most likely will only be released on 4K as a steelbook. As I said earlier, the standard Blu-ray release is due March 21st in North America and March 20th in the UK. Because there is a huge price difference, I have chosen to cancel my pre-order on amazon.com and order it from the UK Amazon.

2023/01/23

  • Release date North America: February 28st, 2023
  • Region code: Code A (B&C untested)
  • Subtitles: English SDH
  • Soundtrack: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
  • Number of discs: 4
  • Studio: Universal
  • Standard Blu-ray case

Like the first season, season two is also going to be released on Blu-ray, although it is a different release, it is a MOD (Manufactured on Demand) release. So I am not sure how easy it is to purchase. The DVD set is already visible on Amazon.com but the Blu-ray release not yet. Update: Is now available on Amazon.com

So you will have to keep an eye out for this one, when it is becoming available in the online stores because it most likely won't be available in physical stores.

If you haven't yet watch this, be sure that you do, it is a really funny show, Alan Tudyk is fantastic in this role, you cannot dislike this, unless you don't like Tudyk of course.

Station Eleven - Miniseries on Blu-ray and 4K!

2023/01/08

  • Release date North America: February 21st, 2023
  • Region code: Code A (B&C untested)
  • Subtitles: English SDH
  • Soundtrack: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
  • Number of discs: 3
  • Studio: Paramount Pictures

Finally another SCI-FI -ish Blu-ray release, called Station Eleven as you can see on the picture on the left. Haven't seen it yet but it is an apocalyptic mini series. It does sound interesting although perhaps not original, but that doesn't mean it cannot be any good.

Premise: A post-apocalyptic saga spanning multiple timelines, this limited drama series tells the stories of survivors of a devastating flu as they attempt to rebuild and reimagine the world anew while holding on to the best of what’s been lost. Based on the international bestseller of the same name by Emily St. John Mandel, Station Eleven stars Mackenzie Davis, Himesh Patel, Lori Petty, David Wilmot, and Daniel Zovatto, with appearances from Gael Garcia Bernal, Danielle Deadwyler, David Cross and more.

Legends of Tomorrow - Complete Series on Blu-ray

2022/09/28

  • Release date US: October 18, 2022
  • Region code: Code A (B&C untested)
  • Subtitles: English SDH + lots more
  • Soundtrack: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
  • Number of discs: 19
  • Studio: Warner Bros.

Well in 3 weeks the complete series of Legends of Tomorrow will be released on Blu-ray, all 7 seasons, 110 episodes! It looks to be a standard release, the individual releases packed inside a big box. Someone on Blu-ray.com said it correctly, someone who has never seen this before, will have serious doubts about the show when the see the cover-art!

Doom Patrol - Season 3 Release on Blu-ray

2022/09/18

  • Release date US: Novermber 15, 2022
  • Region code: Code A (B&C untested)
  • Subtitles: English SDH
  • Soundtrack: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
  • Number of discs: 3
  • Studio: Warner Bros.

And another Blu-ray release has been announced, Doom Patrol season 3. Digital copy is included, packaging, slipbox and innerprint. Have yet to see it myself, I am planning to, but there is so much to watch. Anyway, really happy that these kind of releases are still possible. It already has been released in Australia as well, in May of this year.

Halo - Season One of 4K, Blu-ray and DVD

2022/09/15

  • Release date US: Novermber 15, 2022,                                 UK: November 14, 2022
  • Region code: Code A (B&C untested)
  • Subtitles: English SDH, Spanish
  • Soundtrack: English
  • Number of discs: 5 (Blu-ray)
  • Studio: Paramount

I keep getting surprised in the last few weeks! First a release of For All Mankind, the first season, then the complete series of Starhunter, follow-up by a second season announcement For All Mankind, season two and now I have another surprise, Halo, the first season, and not alone on Blu-ray and DVD but also in 4K format! Just when you think TV shows on Blu-ray is death in the water, you get these released before years end! Plus of course the Star Trek shows like Picard, Discovery and Strange New Worlds!

Haven't seen it myself but I have to say I am curious about this show so I will probably pick up the Blu-ray set once available. Anyway, it is good to know that TV shows still get released on Blu-ray and in this case, even in 4K.

Update: In Germany release date December 8th, 2022

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season One

2022/09/14

  • Release date US: March 21, 2023 (Update!!)
  • Release date UK: March 20, 2023
  • Region code: Code A, probably region free
  • Subtitles: TBA
  • Soundtrack: English
  • Number of discs: TBA
  • Studio: Paramount

I know, I know, so many details are missing at this point, like when is the exact release date, is it going to be released in Europe as well, what are the subtitles and on how many discs?

Well all legitamate questions, which I cannot yet answer but the fact that you already can pre-order this on amazon/us is a good sign it will not take very long before it is being released! Two versions will be released, the standard Blu-ray and a steelbook limited edition!

I for one really want this first season sooner rather than later so I'm not sure if I can wait till the Europe release!

For All Mankind - Season Two

Update: Cancelled / Delayed!

2022/09/12

  • Release date, UK - Cancelled / Delayed!
  • Region code: Code B
  • Subtitles: TBA
  • Soundtrack: English
  • Number of discs: 2
  • Studio: Dazzler Media

Dazzler Media doesn't wait around if the season one release will be a success before they announce the release of season two! Apparently they are confident it will sell well. I like this attitude  from this studio! Release date is a little over a month after the first season release, at the moment no cover-art available but as soon as there is an update I will update the cover-art here on the website.

Premise:

In an alternate timeline, in 1969 a Soviet cosmonaut, Alexei Leonov, becomes the first human to land on the Moon. This outcome devastates morale at NASA, but also catalyzes an American effort to catch up. With the Soviet Union emphasizing diversity by including a woman in subsequent landings, the United States is forced to match pace, training women and minorities, who were largely excluded from the initial decades of U.S. space exploration.

Star Trek: Picard S2 & Discovery S4 this year on Blu!

Source: Trekcore

Update: Release Date Discovery, December 6th, 2022

2022/09/06

  • Release date: October 4th, 2022/ December 6th, 2022
  • Region Code: A (probably region free)
  • Subtitles: English
  • Soundtrack: English
  • Number of Discs: 2 discs Pic, 4 discs Dsc
  • Studio: Paramount

Both Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Discovery are going to get a Blu-ray release before the end of this year. Picard's season two is already next month on October 4th. Discovery's 4th season will be released in December most likely, not a definite date yet, first December 6th was announced but apparently incorrect but it will most likely be December 2022.

Starhunter ReduX: The Complete Series Blu-ray

2022/08/21

  • Release date: August 23rd, 2022
  • Region Code: A
  • Subtitles: English
  • Soundtrack: English
  • Number of Discs: 10
  • Studio: SHOUT! Factory

I have to say, years back I heard rumors about this release but I simply couldn't believe it. I didn't think it is or ever was popular enough to be released on Blu-ray. I myself purchased the first season some 10-15 years ago I guess, the DVD set of course. I couldn't get through it, I stopped watching after 7 episodes. I really tried but it was not my cup of tea.

The stories were bland, the acting wasn't that good and the special effects were....low budget. I don't know if I still own the first season, think I sold it years ago. I however never saw the second season, was kinda curious about it but I never dared to make the purchase on DVD. So now a complete series, I really find it encouraging that this is being released even though it's not my thing. The price is very high at the moment, $70+ !

For All Mankind - Season One

2022/08/17

  • Release date, UK - Cancelled / Delayed!
  • Region code: Code B
  • Subtitles: TBA
  • Soundtrack: English
  • Number of discs: 2
  • Studio: Dazzler Media

Well I didn't expect this, a Blu-Ray release of this Apple+ TV show. It is a release in the UK from a small studio Dazzler Media. Thankful for smaller studio's such as this to bring these titles on physical media, well done! It of course contains all 10 episodes.

Update: Cancelled / Delayed!

Legends of Tomorrow - Season 6

2021/09/03

  • Release date, USA - November 9th, 2021
  • Region code: Code A (Most likely region free)
  • Subtitles: English SDH
  • Soundtrack: English
  • Number of discs: 4
  • Digital code: Yes

In two month the sixth season is going to be released in the USA and mostl likely it won't take long before it will be released in the UK also. This show and other CW shows get a regular release, this is becoming more and more special because with most shows you can only hope the following season will also be released, let alone with a months after the season has ended on the CW.

I just started watching Legends of Tomorrow myself, currently in season two and I do like it. It good enough to keep watching. And because I own the the first five seasons on Blu-ray, you can imagine I am happy that the CW keeps releasing their shows on Blu-ray.

The Nevers: Season 1 Part 1

2021/08/19

  • Release date, USA - October 5th, 2021
  • Region code: Code A (not sure yet if it is region free)
  • Subtitles: English SDH
  • Soundtrack: TBA but most likey only English
  • Digital code: Yes

Well another SCI-FI TV show is at hand on Blu-ray! The Nevers is expected to be released in October of this year. Be aware, it is only the first part of the first season, 6 episodes. Part two has not yet aired/streamed.

I haven't yet seen this but I did hear some good things about it. It is a HBO production so this normally means high production values which is always a good thing. It is a 2-disc set. I am not sure it I want to purchase part one of a (first) season, haven't done that since I collect Blu-ray's

Resident Alien - Season One

2021/08/12

  • Release date, USA - September 21, 2021
  • Region Code Region Code A (not sure if it is region free)
  • Subtitles - English SDH
  • Soundtrack - English : DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1

Resident Alien, one of the best new shows of 2021! Syfy channel really has a hit on their hands if you ask me! As I said a few times, there hasn't been much Blu-ray releases in 2021, you can count them on two, perhaps evem one hand.

Alan Tudyk is the lead character we of course know from shows like Firefly, Dollhouse, Con Man and movies like I, Robot and Serenity. In Resident Alien he is an alien who crash lands on our planet and he takes on a identity of a local doctor.

Currently only released in North America, not sure if this will be released in other parts of the world because this is no longer a certainty.

Smallville - The Complete series for its 20th Anniversary!

2021/07/27

  • Release date, USA - October 19th 2021
  • Region Code - Region Code A (good chance Region Free)
  • Subtitles - TBA
  • Soundtrack - TBA

Well, a bit of a surprise, Smallville gets a complete series release, after all those years in honor of its 20th Anniversary. Seasons 6-10 were previously been released on Blu-ray as individual releases, season 5 & 6 were also released on the short-lived HD-DVD format (back in 2006 and 2007).

No details yet if seasons 1-5 are in real HD, or upscaled. It seems logical anyways that season 5 will also be in real HD since it already was released earlier on HD-DVD. It's 10 seasons so I am very interested in the price, think it probably will be at least about $100, but that is also not clear yet. Still, happy that such a release still is possible!

Star Trek TOS - Complete Series - Re-release 55 yrs Anniversary

2021/07/02

  • Release date, USA - September 7, 2021
  • Region Code - Region Free (Most likely, officially Region A)
  • Subtitles - English SDH, French, Portugese, Spanish
  • Soundtrack - Same as the subtitles

Of course Star Trek was released on Blu-ray more than 10 years ago, but now, for its 55th Anniversary, the series will be re-released on Blu-ray. Most likely the discs will remain the same, it's not clear yet but it seems unlikely there will be new printed blu-ray discs.

The packaging is shiny, the seasons are packed in steelbooks! This is most likely the reason these sets will sell. Fans perhaps will double dip because of the nice packaging, the steelbook releases.  don't think I will update/replace my set with this one, unless there is so much new footage on this, which, as I said is highly unlikely. Star Trek: Discovery - Season 3

2021-06-05

  • Release date, USA - 2021-07-20
  • Region Code: Region Free (most likely), officially Region A
  • Subtitles: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish
  • Soundtrack: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese

It's been 3 months since I could announce a new Blu-ray release of a TV show! There aren't many TV show Blu-ray releases out there. Star Trek: Discovery's 3rd season started out okay but for me, it was below my expectations. So I am not sure If I will purchase this season while I do own the first 2 seasons. Season 2 is my favorite but this is for a large part due to Captain Pike.

Currently only announced in the US, but later this year it almost certainly will be released all over the world. At least it's still being released on Blu-ray, so for that reason alone I perhaps should purchase the 3rd season but I am not sure yet.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 & 7 released in Japan

2021-03-20

  • Release date, Japan - 2021-06-02
  • Region Code: Region A (B & C untested)
  • Subtitles: Japanese
  • Soundtrack: English and Japanese

Season 6 was released last year in Japan and now season 7 has announced to be released on June 2nd this year! While there still is not word of a UK release for the last two seasons.

Japanese release for season 6 is region free, so it's very likely season 7 will also be region free but the price to import it from Japan is about $100 per season, which makes it too much for me. I keep hoping both seasons will be released in the UK also.

Disney needs to be supportive of those fans who purchased the first 5 seasons in the UK also. This isn't how you treat your fans.

Timeless - The Complete Series, incl. Miracle of Christmas

2021-02-14

  • Release date, Australia - 2020-11-13
  • Region Code: Region B, A (C untested)
  • Subtitles: None

I realize this set has been released a few months ago on Blu-ray. But I can imagine you didn't even realize this was released on Blu-ray. Until this time it has only been released on Blu down under! But according to blu-ray.com this is at least region A & B compatible. The second season has been tested on all regions and this one if region free. Season 1 is probably also region free but region C has not yet been tested.

The individual seasons are harder to come by (for a decent price) if you do not live down under. The complete series is currently available via amazon.com, not sure how long this will continue to be the case. In a nutshell, if you really like this series, if you want it on blu, my advise is, don't wait too long.

Stargate Universe - VEI Blu-Ray release, coming soon!

2021-01-06

VEI now also announced Stargate Universe on Blu-ray! As you know only the first season has been released on Blu-ray some 10 years ago or so. Now both seasons will be released in a complete series set.

VEI's asking price is quite reasonable if you ask me, $39.99, but like with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, if you outside or North America you cannot purchase this set on VEI or Amazon.

There is an online store where you can purchase Stargate SG-1 on blu-ray from outside North America, this is Blue-Rays for Everyone. But at this moment the Stargate Atlantis is not available there but perhaps it's because they do sell the original release.

As soon as I am able I will purchase this set and I will let you know the details. See also this BLOG about the Blu-ray release.

Stargate Atlantis - VEI Blu-Ray release! Perhaps SGU also?

2020-12-19

As you see below, company VEI released Stargate SG-1 on Blu-ray! Remains to be seen if this is a true HD release, although on the  Blu-ray.com forum there are people whom already ordered a copy but at this point no one has received a copy. Now VEI also announced the complete series of Stargate Atlantis! Which in itself is not a shocking release because this set already has been released in 2011. I have this set myself and I am very happy with it.

But now there is of course a very high possibility that Stargate Universe will also be released on Blu-ray in the very near future as a complete series. As you probably know, till now only the first season has been released on Blu-ray, so this would be very interesting! Downside at this point, although the Stargate SG-1 set is now available on Amazon.com, unfortunately at this point, people outside North America are unable to purchase this. Hopefully another possibillity will present itself in the near future to order these sets. Especially Stargate Universe would be very interesting for me. I will keep you informed of course.

VEI - Stargate Atlantis

Stargate SG-1 - Blu-ray release coming soon!

VEI HOME  - VEI Stargate SG1

Update: It's not a true HD release but this was to be expected. To find out what buyers think of it, click on the Blu-ray.com link in this item. There is a way to purchase it from outside of North America: BFE Blu-Rays for Everyone

2020-12-13

11 days ago I posted that Babylon 5 possibly is getting a Blu-ray release and today I read that Stargate SG-1 also seem to be coming out on Blu-ray soon! There are rumors for a few months now that actual HD streamings were available so there was hope and today, via Blu-ray.com I learned that VEI (Visual Entertainment Incorporated) is releasing the complete series on Blu-ray in the near future!

I was hoping for it for a long time now but did not really expect it on such short notice! Pity for myself is that I am almost finished with the rewatch of all 10 seasons on DVD. I have 6 more episodes to go. Still great news and thankfull that 90's TV shows finally seem to getting Blu-ray releases. So perhaps there is still hope for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager!

Here you can directly to the VEI website to see the announcement but as far as I know only if you live in North America you can order from VEI. So hopefully this set will also be available on online shops like Amazon.com and everyone outside North America is also able to purchase this set. Makes you wonder though, how well this company VEI knows the show, when they are having Jonas Quinn on the cover instead of Daniel Jackson!

Is it Really Happening? Babylon 5 Released on Blu-Ray!

2020-12-02

Is it really happening? Babylon 5 on blu-ray? Last weeks there have been rumors and also ITunes, of what is it called lately, is showing Babylon 5 which what seems to be HD or upscaled to HD. So it could be an upscaled blu-ray release but that would be fine with me! Details are still unclear but a Swedish website Discshop already has the complete series on pre-order for March 19th 2021! So how Babylon 5 will be presented is yet unclear but that it’s coming to blu-ray seems to be inevitable!

Below you see a comparison video where you can see the big difference between de SD and the possible (upscaled) HD version, Also here you can find a link to Babylon 5 page on blu-ray.com where you can see speculation, messages from excited fans and perhaps more news in the next few weeks which I of course will also post on the website. This really is something I never expected anymore, even if it's only a minor upgrade on the awful DVD quality, it would be worth it! - Update: Seems to be postponed! Swedish website now says December 31, 2021, which normally means...we don't know.

The Expanse - Season 4

2020-11-22

  • Release date North America - 2020-12-15
  • Region Free: TBD

For a long while I was unsure, after the move from Syfy channel to Amazon Prime, we were going to get future blu-ray releases of The Expanse beyond season 3. Really glad my doubts were unfounded or at least, did not become a reality and one day before the start of season 5 on Amazon Prime, season 4 gets released!

So far only in North America but it stands to reason that season 4 will also be released in Europe and other parts of the world. Just so you know, the first 3 seasons of the North American release was regio free so it's a good chance season 4 will also be region free. I ordered the set and I will update this page once I indeed can confirm it's region free

Season 4 was IMO not the strongest season but definately worth while.

Colony - Season 3

2020-11-22

  • Release date Germany - 2020-11-20
  • Region Free: TBD
  • No English Subs

After being postponed 3 times the blu-ray release would finally arrive on Friday Novenber 20th, 2020 but apparently there is still a problem with the availability of the blu-ray set.

I ordered this set in May 2020, first would arrive mid September, than it was delayded first to mid October, subsequently on October 30th and again is was postponed to November 20th.

I've got a bad feeling about this release, if it's going to be released at all, when you amazon.de it says: at the moment not available... We will have to wait and see if it's indeed just temporary lack of availability or perhaps a definate inavailability.

Update: 2020-11-23 - My copy is actually shipped today!
