Last Rewatch: Season 1: 02/12/2015 - 08/01/2016 / Season 2: 21/04/2018 - 07/08/2018
Plot (IMDb): The war is over and almost everyone has experienced a loss. Agent Peggy Carter has lost the love of her life. To top it off, when billionaire Howard Stark is accused of Treason, he secretly employs her to clear his name. With the help of Stark's butler, she embarks on a whimsical journey full of deceit, murder and controversy with a side of wise-cracking roommates.
Marvel's Agent Carter premiered on January 6 2015, the last episode aired on March 1, 2016. Agent Carter only had two short seasons. The first season consists of 8 episodes and the second season had 10 episodes. Of course I do not have to tell you that this is a spin-off from the first Captain America movie were Hayley Atwell also plays Agent Carter.
It was a mid-season replacement for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Carter received generally favorable reviews but despite that the ratings kept falling. At the end of it's first season it certainly was not a given that Agent Carter would be renewed for a second season.
Back then, after it's first season, I wrote a blog about Agent Carter, to try and help save it for a second season. Can't imagine my blog helped :-) but fortunately it was renewed for a second season and even 2 more episodes than the first season. As I wrote in the blog, Agent Carter was a fresh new show, which deserved to have gone on for a few more seasons. The 40s setting was amazingly done, very believable and it was just a fun series, I really were disappointed ABC cancelled it so soon!
You'd hope Netflix would pick this up, especially because they also had Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, and so on. So to me it was an obvious choice that Netflix would pick this up. We know this wasn't the case, no new Agent Carter episodes.
On Rotten Tomatoes Agent Carter does very well. For both seasons 86% critics and 85% audience. The first season is the best rated on this website (96% over 76%). The show also has been released on Blu-ray. In the UK and also in Germany, Australia and Japan. Sure hope to see Hayley Atwell in something new SCI-FI in the not so distant future!
