Last Rewatch: 27/1/2014 - 18/11/2015
Plot (IMDb): Taken from the film, Highlander, Duncan MacLeod, clansman of Connor in the film also finds he is being stalked by not only other immortals trying to kill him before the time of the gathering, but also a secret society of mortals who call themselves 'The Watchers' and also seem intent on killing him but "The Watchers" observe and record and never interfere. Duncan and the other immortals can only be killed by decapitation and often live for centuries.
Highlander, The Series, first aired in October 1992. Of course it was spin-off from the Highlander movies. I've always been a fan of the series, more so than of the movies. Really liked the character Duncan MacLeod. Always righteous, trying to help the fellow man or woman but if needed he would chop the immortals head off. He has the same kind of honor Worf from Star Trek TNG and DS9 has.
In the 90s Highlander was one of my favorite shows, think I've watched it 6 or 7 times. I purchased the original Anchor Bay Entertainment releases between 2002 and 2005. Those were big sets, lots of special features, and not cheap! Still have all six seasons of the origional release. Highlander should have been created a few years later in my opinion, when TV had become more violence accepted, so it would be allowed to actually see the head being chopped off, which in the current show is of course never really seen, which would have made it more confronting.
I have to say, always in doubt if Highlander falls under SCI-FI or Fantasy, or perhaps a bit of both. Anyway on IMDb and Wikipedia it's labeled, among others as, SCI-FI, so I again, like with The Pretender, have a good excuse to add Highlander here on this page, because as I said, it's a favorite of mine.
It even got a short-lived spin-off show called Highlander: The Raven. In the lead role Elizabeth Gracen who reprises her role as Amanda. I believe Duncan MacLeod did not even did one guest appearance which I believe was a missed opportunity. I watched the show myself one time. It was okay but not in the same league as Highlander, The Series. But still worth checking it out if you've never seen it before.
In the US VEI has re-released the DVD set Highlander, The Series and as a bonus, the complete series of Highlander: The Raven is on there. At the same time I need to caution you because there are many complaints about this VEI set when you check it out in Amazon reviews. Best to see if you can purchase the Anchor Bay releases, because then you will have the best quality. VEI also seems to be doing the Blu-Ray release in the (near) future but if they f***-up the DVD set, why would the Blu-ray set be any different.
Ps. I only just find out, December 31st 2020 that Stan Kirsch apparently committed suicide in January of this year! Heartbreaking! He was only 51 years. R.I.P. !
