Plot: The previously unknown purpose of the "Ninth Chevron" is revealed, and ends up taking a team to an Ancient ship "Destiny", a ship built millions of years ago by the Ancients, used to investigate a mystery as old as time itself. This team, led by Dr. Nicolas Rush and Colonel Everett Young, is trapped on the ship, unable to change its programmed mission. Stargate Universe started in 2009, right after the final season of Stargate Atlantis. Fans were convinced that sci-fi channel, in consultation with the creators of the show, cancelled Stargate Atlantis to give room for Stargate Universe. As far as I am aware this always has been denied. The plan was, before MGM got in to financial problems and before we got a crisis on our hands, that Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis would continue as movies direct to DVD, while Stargate Universe would be the new TV show.

Fans made up their own mind, most of them rejected Stargate Universe because of this reason I described above. Another issue according to Stargate fans was that SGU was not a copy of SGA or SG-1. Fans wanted the same thing as they'd had before. They (the fans) said it was a copy of Battlestar Galactica, because that show too was dark and gritty. Well that's about the only comparison you can make between those 2 shows. That, and the military leaders in both shows not being perfect.

Stargate Universe was doomed from the start, if Stargate fans did not give this show a chance, who would? Of course, there are fans, like me, who adore this show. I admit, it started out slow, and it took too long before we saw any aliens but other than that I thought it was more than just entertaining. Great cast, I love the fact that Rush, who is one of the lead characters, isn't a goodie two shoes. And Colonel Everett Young was far from a perfect leader. It had some great stories, more than a few cross-over stories. No, I had the very good time with this show and was deeply disappointed by it's cancellation.

At the time I thought 5 seasons was indeed enough for Stargate Atlantis but I have to admit, while rewatching the show on Blu-ray, I wish we had another season or two.
