Stargate Atlantis, the second live-action series bearing the name Stargate, started in 2004. Like Star Trek, there is always the question, which is your favorite? Well Atlantis is my favorite one. Of Course I am also very fond of SG-1 and I even am a fan of Stargate Universe but for some reason Atlantis, for me, just floats on top.
Not sure if I can explain why but I think it has to do with it being a bit more Sci-fi than SG-1. Atlantis looks futuristic, although is thousands years old, it's on an alien planet in another galaxy. The Atlantis foe, The Wraith are much more interesting, frightening than the Goa'uld ever were. And I love the characters, but that is not different with SG-1. Sheppard, McKay, Beckett and Dr. Weir are my favorite characters for sure. Ronan is of course cool too.
What I did not like particularly was that Elizabeth Weir had to make room for Samantha Carter in year four. Really annoyed me and still does when I am rewatching season 4 again. Don't get me wrong, I love Sam Carter but she already had 10 seasons on SG-1, you could have made her a re-curring character instead of taking over from Dr. Weir. What's done is done, I still am a fan of the show, Atlantis is currently in my top 5 all time favorite TV shows.
With the Ancients' city of Atlantis discovered in the Pegasus Galaxy by Stargate Command, Dr. Elizabeth Weir and Major Sheppard lead a scientific expedition to the ancient abandoned city. Once there, the team not only find themselves unable to contact Earth, but their explorations unexpectedly reawaken the Ancients' deadly enemies, The Wraith, who hunger for this new prey.
