Rewatch: Season 1: 20/11/2010 - 4/12/2010 / Season 2 29/8/2016 - 21/9/2016
Plot (IMDb):
In a post-apocalyptic future, a deadly virus has wiped out most of humanity. The only ones who survived, were those who hadn't yet reached puberty. Now, a decade has gone by, and a man called Jeremiah is set on a quest to find a mysterious place, of which his father spoke, a place called Valhalla.
Jeremiah premiered on Showtime in 2002 and ran for two seasons, ended in 2004. Showtime decided they weren't interested in Science Fiction anymore. J.M. Strazcynski would not be the showrunner if the show was renewed for a third season because of creative differences between him and MGM Television.
J.M. Staczynski had a planned for a 5 year story. But then problem arose with the new MGM administration who we were no longer interested in creating and thus airing science fiction. MGM/Showtime unofficially cancelled Jeremiah before the second season begon in November 2003. MGM only wanted to air the first 7 episodes of the second season but fans organized an offensive to Showtime and MGM which worked in part. Showtime aired the 8 remaining episodes but did not renew season 3 after all. Eventhough the (Nielsen) ratings kept rising towards the, what ultimately became, the series finale.
J.M. Staczynski vowed never work the that current adminstration of MGM. Even if the show would have been renewed for season 3, he would not be the showrunner anymore.
The truth is, at least my truth, the show really got better and better! It already was good with its first season but the second season was even more exciting. So much happened in that season, on such a big scale. I would love a season 3 but if that meant it would not be under the supervision of J.M. Straczynski...I would not be so sure.
The show has a decent ending, because early on it was decided there wouldn't be a season 3. Recently the show was released in Australia as a complete series, a bit pricey but I do think it's the best deal. The US sets these days are difficult to come by and also quite expensive. To which shows you can complare Jeremiah, I think of Jericho and Revolution, only....BETTER! Don't forget to listen to the season 2 intro which is fantastic! Below You can listen/watch it intro and here you can listen to the single version.
