Current Rewatch S1-3 : 2023/09/01 - 2023/11/17 - First watch S4 - Early 2024

In For All Mankind it is not the US who is first on the moon, but the Russians are first, this is a shock to the Americans of course. It is an alternative timeline in 1969 where Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov becomes the first human to land on the Moon. This is only the beginning because what didn’t happen in our timeline, happens in this show created by Ronald D. Moore, whom we all know from Star Trek and the reimagined Battlestar Galactica. We are seeing a space race arise that goes beyond the moon but also to Mars.

It is one of the best new shows out there, first season started November 1st , 2019 but before the first episode aired, it already was renewed for a 2nd season which premiered more than a year later on February 19th , 2021! Season two was critically acclaimed and it got nominated a TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama. In December 2020, so well before the 2nd season premiered, For All Mankind had already been renewed for a 3rd season. The 3rd season premiered on June 10th, 2022. Only a bit more than a month into the 3rd season, on July 22, 2022, For All Mankind was renewed for a 4th season, which normally, will premiere somewhere in 2023.

It has a very big cast, most of them were there from the beginning, a few passed away unfortunately like Sarah Jones’ character. So the characters whom where there from the beginning, are now 20-30 years older in the show, in season 3, but some of them, especially the women, seem to have hardly aged. I understand the reasoning but still it is a bit strange but that’s the only thing which bothers me a bit about this show, otherwise it is a great show indeed.

Another unexpected surprise, last week I found out that a UK studio called Dazzler Media is going to release the first and the second season on Blu-ray! Season one in October 2022, season 2 a month later! Well this is truly unexpected if you ask me, an Apple+ TV show released on physical media is rare, any TV show release, outside of Star Trek & CW shows is rare nowadays. Hopefully this will be an incentive for other smaller studio’s to release shows like that on physical media, preferable on Blu-ray. The larger companies don’t have interest to do so, so it is up to us, fans, to buy these releases so we perhaps get more of these shows in the future on Blu-ray and DVD.
