Babylon 5, the pilot aired in February 1993, almost a year later season one began. B5 is an epic tale, a space opera, great stories, great characters who got the change to grow over five seasons. A story with a beginning, a middle and an end. A story arc that would last five seasons!
Babylon 5 is one of my all time favorite TV shows! The other one is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. For a long time I could not choose between these two and now I still find it hard to give favor to one of these two. When I am rewatching B5, I think that is my favorite. But when I am watching DS9, I think that one is my favorite. One thing is certain, what B5 did was extraordinary, telling a story over five seasons when your name doesn't begin with Star Trek!
The story begins earlier than season one but that is something you will learn along the way. The year is 2258, 10 years after the Earth-Minbari war. A war which Earth had won but only because the Minbari surrendered themselves on the eve of victory. Earth was a the brink of total destruction. Therefore a space station has been built, a giant five-mile-long cylindrical space station, orbiting a planet in neutral space. A place at a crossroads of interstellar commerce and diplomacy. Commander Sinclair is it's first commander.
Sinclair (and later Sheridan) must try and establish peace and prosperity between these various interstellar Empires and alliances. And there is also a cancer growing within the Earth Alliance. It's not an easy command, given the fact that the first 3 stations were destroyed and the 4th station disappeared just when it went online.
