Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premiered on September 24th 2013. It was of course a spin-off from the movie The Avengers which was in the theaters in the summer of 2012. In it Phil Coulson seems to die and he actually dies.

I remember when S.H.I.E.L.D. aired its first season it was immediately clear that it's renewel wasn't a walk in the park. After the pilot, the ratings dropped quite a bit. It aired against NCIS which was by then in it's 8th or 9th season. I honestly thought people would have had enough of that show by now and would consider something new to watch.

People just kept watching NCIS while S.H.I.E.L.D. was struggling eacht week. Still it kept on going for 7 seasons. By the third or fourth season ABC moved the show to another timeslot, no longer against NCIS but the ratings did never got stellar but it was being watched a lot within 7 days (Live-plus-7), so S.H.I.E.L.D. was very popular, but people, especially young people, watch shows in all kinds of different ways now.

I myself till now have only seen the first 5 seasons on Blu-ray. I have access to Disney+, I can watch season 6 (and 7 in the near future) but I would much rather like to watch it on Blu-ray (ps. season 6 has been released on Blu-ray in Japan!). I hope the last two seasons still will be released on Blu-ray in the near future. S.H.I.E.L.D. is probably one of my favorite shows of this last decade, it started out a bit uneven I think but soon this turned out to be a show you have to watch!

In response, Phil Coulson of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division assembles an elite covert team to find and deal with these threats wherever they are found.
