It took awhile, but I am done with Foundation’s 3rd season. I imagine it will take at least 18 months before we can await the 4th season. Season 3 has a different feel to me than the first two seasons, but season two was, in my opinion, also different than the first season. Like season two, I believe that the third season is more accessible to the viewer than the first season. There is something that bothered me this season, this is during the season finale, which I will come back to later on.
New Characters:
The Mule (Pilou Asbæk) is perhaps the most important new character; he is the ultimate enemy of the Empire and the Foundation. He has eerie powers that can make you do whatever he wants you to do. With his music, the musician Magnifico Giganticus (Tómas Lemarquis), is an important part of his power. Dr. Ebling Mis (Alexander Siddig), a self-taught psych historian and diehard fan of Hari Seldon. Siddig also portrays Advocate Xylas, the prosecutor in Seldon's trial, in the first season. Bayta Mallow (Synnøve Karlsen), a renowned socialite and Toran's wife. Toran Mallow (Cody Fern), a descendant of trader Hober Mallow and Bayta's husband. Preem Palver (Troy Kotsur), the leader of a colony of Mentalics on the planet Ignis what has evolved into the Second Foundation. Felice Quent (Cherry Jones), the Foundation's ambassador to the Empire, and an old friend of Brother Dusk. Felice sees to her horror what Dusk is capable of, something she never expected. Han Pritcher (Brandon P. Bell), the Foundation's captain of information, also Gaal’s love interest.
Overview Season 3:
Other than the other seasons, season three is much more action oriented, less talk, more action. Set 152 years after the end of the second season. Except perhaps for Seldon, all the characters are going on a roller coaster ride through the third season. Brother Day leaves the palace, he no longer has any interest in being the emperor, he is living a nihilistic lifestyle and has no intention to change that. When Day goes to Mycogen to find Song, he gets into a whole lot of trouble but brings home something that can bring back the robots. The Empire is about to fall, Day is absent, Dawn is also absent and that leaves the Empire in the hands of Brother Dusk. Gaal is getting ready to fight the Mule. The Mule is introduced as a terrifying "mentallic" with the power to bend the will of others. Personally, I was really annoyed with this Mule character. I really loved that moment when the Mule thinks he can get to Seldon, in episode 8, but he is sorely mistaken!
The season ends on a huge climax, Brother Dusk becomes brother Darkness as he first just destroys a few worlds with his massive weapons, he destroys the successor chamber, preserving only a single baby, and this baby he uses to kill Demerzel. Demerzel sacrifices herself to save a baby clone, compelled by her core programming that binds her to the Empire's protection. She is incinerated in a beam of light, ironically finally "freeing" her from her chains. Dusk also kills brother Day after he came back to find Demerzel because of the robot head he brought back from Mycogen. However, because Day no longer had any nanites inside him, which could heal him, Dusk just kills him and takes the throne for himself. We learn that the second Foundation has secretly been relocated to the Imperial Library on Trantor, led by Preem Palver. Ambassador Quent joins their mission to safeguard the future.
Meanwhile Gaal is coming for the Mule to take him out, the twist at the end was a peculiar one to me, it reveals that Bayta Mallow is the real Mule, having manipulated everyone throughout the season. This I really didn’t like, all season the viewer knows who the Mule is, he is terrifying, he is a beast and more, but in the final moments of the last episode suddenly he is not the Mule but Bayta Mallow is and was, but within a few minutes she dies too, so what was to be gained by this? Revealing that she was the actual Mule but dies within minutes from the one the viewer thought was the Mule the whole season. Stupid decision if you ask me. It would perhaps be different had she escaped or something, but she didn’t. Season 3 ends with a major cliffhanger when a mysterious signal from the "Brazen Head" to Earth's Moon, paving the way for the return of robots in season 4.
Physical media:
It is a shame but it seems that Foundation won’t be getting a physical release, no DVD, Blu-ray or 4K releases. From Apple+’s viewpoint I can understand their reasoning, but Foundation would look glorious on Blu-ray or 4K and I like my shows on physical media, to take it of the shelf when I feel like it. I always remain hopeful, but chances are very slim we will ever see a physical release for this show unfortunately.
Final Word:
I was a little late the game, but I finally watched all three seasons. I think season 3 is my favorite season, except for that twist thing in the finale, didn’t make any sense to me at all. I choose to forget that twist in the finale episode, to me, the Mule is the bad guy we’ve seen for the past 10 episodes. Well, this is it, now we wait for season 4, which take awhile I assume. Looking forward about the robots who will return.

I've added the word document with the episode ratings with descriptions and comments for the ones who are interested in this. Just be aware, it is a draft document, sometimes also can be confusing because of grammar errors and some sloppiness. Fyi - be aware, this is mostly wiki data with some add-ons of myself here and there.
