It was only about two years ago when I purchased the Complete Series on DVD! On January 12th, 2023 I wrote an unboxing blog for that. I was planning to watch it in 2023 but I never got around to it. Then last year in August or September I started to watch Blake’s 7. Watched the first episode somewhere and after that, within a week or so, I learned that Blake’s 7’s first series was going to be released on Blu-ray!I stopped watching, because I knew I wanted to purchase the Blu-ray set when it was released. I knew I was going to double dip. So yeah, on the one hand it is a shame for the complete set I have without ever even played, except for the pilot. I will keep the set for a while before I think about selling it because I am not sure if it is guaranteed that the 3 series will get a Blu-ray release for sure? If it sells well, it won’t be a problem I think.

Because I don’t have much self space left, I am always looking for thin releases, so in most cases, just a simple standard release will always suffice for me. Why the UK sets, like Doctor Who and also this set of Blake’s 7 series One needs to be in those thick boxes, is a mystery to me! This was also the case the complete series of the X-files, while the US set had nice thin standard BD cases per season. So yes, the US set of Blake’s 7 – Series one, is a standard BD case, with slipcover, which means that the 4 series from the US you only need half of the shelf space in comparison to the UK set.

As I said, this set is perfect for the minimalist in terms of packaging. That does not mean that the release itself is a bare bones release, on the contrary, it is loaded with special features. See below for more info. On the US set there no inner print, which is always a shame but it is not the end of the world. In my opinion it does have real nice cover art, the slipcover as well as the cover on the case, as you can see, this looks real nice. The 13 episodes are spread over 6 discs, so most of the time 2 episodes on a disc, talk about enough space for the episodes. The set is presented in its original aspect ratio. The set includes English subtitles (SDH), and as you can see on the photo’s a very informative booklet.

Final Word:

Well I am really going to look forward watching this again. It has been so long ago since I have watched Blake's 7. I actually don’t think I saw every episode but let’s say 30-40% approximately, perhaps a bit more, really don't have a clue, so long ago! I am also looking forward to see the show with the new special effects. I am told that they did it very graciously, not overdid it, like with the Star Trek TOS set so many years ago. Well I hope this blog will make your decision to weather or not to buy this set easier. So, to summarize, if you purchase the US set, you’ll get the 15mm Elite 6-disc case, if you purchase it from the UK, you’ll get a 25mm boxset.
