Blake’s 7 first aired in the same time period as Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and the original Battlestar Galactica. It aired from January 1978 till until December 21st 1981. It ran for 4 seasons of each 13 episodes, so in total 52 episodes of 50 minutes. I was a youngster when Blake’s 7 and the other shows first aired. I remember that I frequently watched Blake’s 7. I don’t know for sure if I watched every episode, don’t believe so but it is just so long ago since I watched it.

I am also uncertain if Blake’s 7 ever aired on the Dutch television, I believe I watched it on the Belgian network called BRT. Same with Buck Rogers. I know in UK and North America shows like that are on an endless rerun but that was not the case here in the Netherlands or Belgium. After that period I lost my love for SCI-FI and this took approximately 5-10 years before the love for SCI-FI returned. But then Star Trek: TNG was in its 4th season or something. I started watching TNG again got even more excited when Babylon 5 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine arrived. So I never really felt the urge to rewatch Blake’s 7 at that time and at that time it also wasn’t available to me.

When it got released on DVD at some point I was tempted many times to do so but I never did. Until recently, when I was collecting data on which shows have their anniversaries in 2022 & 2023, I noticed Blake’s 7 was up for its 45th Anniversary! I also find out that the last 40th Anniversary DVD set was remastered! Which was an extra push for me to purchase the DVD set. Unfortunately it hasn’t been released on Blu-ray otherwise I would have purchased the Blu-ray set. Anyways it arrived a few days ago (current date 2022/12/19).

It will be sometime next year when I will start the rewatch, and in some cases it will be a first watch because I cannot imagine I have seen every episode. But there will also an 45th Anniversary blog in two weeks but this is not written by myself but by a big Blake’s 7 fan! I asked @TPreacher711, if he would consider writing this anniversary blog because his knowledge about the show is so much bigger than mine. Mine are only memories from when I was a little kid, and he accepted it! Really looking forward to this of course! (update – 45th Anniversary blog is fantastic!)

Final Word:

So as you can see a big set, seasons 1 and 2 in one package, seasons 3 & 4 in one package, packed into one. The discs holders are sturdy, there are two booklets, one for seasons 1&2 and one for seasons 3&4. There you'll find the episode titles, all the extra's and such. I really am impressed with the set, nicely done, was in good shape when it arrived. What is an extra plus for this set in comparison to the earlier sets is that on this set the episodes have been digitally remastered! My rewatch will start early 2023. Currently I am in the middle of other rewatches plus I already have a few picked to become next but my Blake's 7 rewatch will start latest in March 2023.
