Torchwood first aired in 2006 and it became quite successfully, as everyone probably knows, it is a spin-off from Doctor Who and the lead character Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) started out in the first Doctor Who (2005) series one in several episodes. If I remember correctly, while Doctor Who was a family show, Torchwood was more a show for adults but it certainly had and kept a connection with Doctor Who through its entire run.

Torchwood ran for 4 seasons (or series in UK), but the last two season definitely are different from the first two. Season 3 and 4 are more miniseries with respectively 5 & 10 episodes. In season 4 the setting is more global and was an UK-American co-production with actors like Bill Pullman, Lauren Ambrose and Peter Capaldi. Most of the fans apparently didn’t really like or appreciate the last season but I am not one of them, I think the last two seasons are my favorites of its run but I also love the first two seasons, it was good TV with some cross-overs from Doctor Who here and there. One actress, Indira Varma, was only there for 2 episodes in the first season which I always regretted, she is such a fine actress, really bugged me she didn’t become a regular on the show.

I guess Torchwood has been cancelled now, but for a long time after season 4 it was unclear it was cancelled or if it would be back for a fifth season. Of course you’ll never know, especially because Doctor Who is still on the air, that there could be a return of Captain Jack and Gwen Cooper. I would welcome it as many of you will also I gather.
