The Twilight Zone is an American science fiction, horror, fantasy anthology television series created and presented by Rod Serling. It ran for 5 seasons, most of the seasons (1,3,5) had 30+ episodes, which is something that we don’t see anymore nowadays. Season 2 had 29 episodes. It ran on CBS from October 2nd, 1959 till June 19th, 1964.

 

Each episode stands on its own, with a new set of characters each episode, so no main cast. Characters find themselves dealing with often disturbing or unusual events, an experience described as entering "the Twilight Zone", often with a surprise ending and a moral. Serling was an executive producer and the head writer, he wrote 92 of the 156 episodes as he was also the shows host and narrator, he delivered monologues at the beginning and end of each episode, and typically appeared on-screen to address the audience directly during the opening scene.

 

What is fun to watch these episodes today is that you will see many actors who were at the start (or sometimes at the end) of their careers, whom you recognize from shows that came after the Twilight Zone ended. Names as William Shatner, Robert McCord, John Anderson, Bill Mumy, Anne Francis, John Hoyt, Steve Cochran, Theodore Bikel, Barry Morse, Dennis Hopper, James Coburn and many others. This is an adding plus when rewatching those old shows from the 60, 70 and 80’s.
