Last Rewatch: 29/07/2020 - 09/05/2021
Plot (IMDb): The 4400 explores the travails of the 4400 people who all at once returned in a ball of light to Earth; though the returnees had not aged physically, many of them reappeared with dramatic abilities ranging from enhanced reflexes to precognition. NTAC (National Threat Assessment Command) is the government agency responsible for keeping track of the returnees and investigating all things related to the 4400.
The 4400 premiered on July 11th 2004, on the USA network, the last episode aired on September 16, 2007. On December 18, 2007, 3 months after the season 4 finale, co-creator Scott Peters announced that due to the 2007 writers strike, budgetary problems and lower than expected ratings, The 4400 would not return for a fifth season, despite the season 4 cliff-hanger finale.
The 4400's first season started out as a miniseries of 5 episodes. but proved to be very successful and then it was decided to let it return as a regular series. The 3 follow-up seasons all had 13 episodes. Unfamiliar to me is that there are even books published of The 4400! The first two books: The Vesuvius Prophecy & Wet Work are set within the 4 seasons. Last two books are set after the series: Welcome to Promise City and Promises Broken. It is kind of odd that the last book also ends with a cliff-hanger!
In 2018 a reboot was announced, for quite sometime not much happened but last week it was announced that the CW has picked it up, straight to series for the fall of 2021! This could be interesting, although I hope it will be done well, with respect to the original. Not a copy but please let it be done with proper respect.
On Rotten Tomatoes The 4400 does very well! It received positive reviews from critics. The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports a 95% approval rating and 81% audience approval rating. But it has be to be said that only the first and last season have been reviewed.
Finally I want to also mention that The 4400 has recently been released on Blu-ray in Australia as a complete series, although currently not available. In 2017 it had already been released in Germany on Blu-ray. First as indivudual seasons, later on also as a complete series. The show was filmed in HD so in regard of PQ, you don't have to worry, it's looking good on Blu-ray. The German sets even all have English soundtrack and also English subtitles, you select them both.
