Tales From the Loop is an American SCI-FI drama, created and written by Nathaniel Halpern, based on the art book of the same name by Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag. The complete 8-episode first season was released on Amazon Prime on April 3rd, 2020.
Premise:
Tales from the Loop follows the interconnected lives of the residents in the fictional town of Mercer, Ohio. Mercer is home to the Mercer Centre for Experimental Physics, an underground facility known as the Loop. It is here that researchers attempt to "make the impossible possible". The writer and showrunner Nathaniel Halpern drew inspiration from the short story cycle Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson, its themes of loneliness and isolation, and its focus on small town characters.
Although there are lead characters, not every episode revolves around them, but overall, it does connect with the family in question and also with the Loop. Even though Tales from the Loop never was officially cancelled, it is clear, that there won’t be a second season. The episodes are slow, but if you let it come over you, I think you really enjoy it.
On Rotten Tomatoes it shows that “Tales” was well received by both critics, 87%, and the audience, 75%. Unfortunately, Tales from the Loop has not been released on DVD or Blu-ray.
