Last Rewatch: 1/1/2014 - 30/5/2015

Star Trek: The Original Series premiered on NBC in September 8th 1966 in the United States but it was actually aired 2 days earlier, on September 6th on Canada's CTV Network. As everyone knows, Star Trek: TOS got cancelled after 3 seasons, in total 79 episodes. Reason of course was because the Nielsen rating, while on NBC, were low.

Several years later, Star Trek: TOS did became a big hit broadcast syndication. I myself was too young to see it's original run, but in the late 70s I was introduced to Star Trek. Besides Star Trek I watched Buck Rogers, Blake's 7, V, Six Million Dollar Man, Incredible Hulk, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who. I believe Battlestar Galactica was my favorite show at that time. In the early 90s Star Trek was repeated, every weekend, where I live. While eating dinner I was enjoying it again. And of course, about 8 years ago or so, I purchased it on Blu-ray and since watched it another 2 times, it's time for a rewatch.

Those iconic characters, Kirk, McCoy, Spock...but also Uhura, Chekov, Scotty and Sulu forever changed TV landscape in 1966. And even after 5 new live-action Star Trek series, for many TOS is still their favorite Star Trek. I also am a fan of the original movies, I have watched so many times already. I first purchased them on Video-CD (CD-I), of course next on DVD and finally I also purchased them on Blu-ray. I don't watch the show as often as I used to, but I stil love the characters immensly. Mostlly because of the movies I think. But as I said, I really have to do a rewatch of the series and the movies!

Plot (IMDb): A 1960's science fiction action adventure series set in the twenty-third century based around the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, representing the United Federation of Planets (including Earth) on a five-year mission in outer space to explore new worlds, seek new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where no one has gone before. The Enterprise is commanded by handsome and brash Captain James Tiberius "Jim" Kirk (William Shatner). Kirk's two best friends are Commander Spock (Leonard Nimoy) (last name unpronounceable to humans) the ship's half-human/half-Vulcan Science Officer and First/Executive Officer (i.e. second-in-command) from the planet Vulcan, and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Leonard H. "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley). They, along with a crew of approximately four hundred and thirty, including helmsman Lieutenant Hikaru Kato Sulu (George Takei), navigator Ensign Pavel Andreievich Chekov (Walter Koenig), communications officer Lieutenant Nyota Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), and chief engineer Lieutenant Commander Montgomery "Scotty" Scott (James Doohan). The series follows them as they confront strange alien races, friendly and hostile alike, as they explore unknown worlds. We see the Enterprise and her crew battle aliens, megalomaniac computers, time paradoxes, psychotic murderers, and even Khan Noonien Singh (Ricardo Montalban). The series is known for looking at then (1960's) hot topics such as sex, war, God, religion, politics, and racism and other things that make up the human condition through a lens of the future. The 79 (eighty if including The Cage (1986)) episode television series, which was produced from 1966 to 1969, has now cult characters and has fans all over the world.
