Sanctuary premiered on TV on October 3rd 2008 and the last episode aired on December 30th 2011. A fifth season was planned but never made. Before it was made for TV, there first was a webseries. The webseries was in 2007 and consists of 8 episodes. The webseries was such a success that they decided to create it for TV. On May 21, 2012, Syfy announced that Sanctuary would not return for a fifth season, it was cancelled. 

There was some hope back in October 2020 when Martin Wood, during an interview on the "Dial the Gate channel", told the audience there is actually talk of a possible reboot or continuation of Sanctuary. To check out this interview  please click on the link, around 56 minutes into the interview this is addressed. Since then I haven't heard anything anymore but this is only been 3 months ago and because special circumstances in terms of  Covid is probably will take even longer. Hopefully this really works but I hope with less obvious blue and green screen scenes.

That is the only beef I have with this show! The blue and green scenes, in my opinion, were awful. I want to believe what I see on the screen and that made that virtually impossible. A show with Amanda Tapping in the lead, what more can you ask for, a great cast as a whole, good stories, except for that awful musical episode, really sucks. I skip that with every rewatch. So I do hope, that if we get to see new episodes of Santuary, I truly hope they get a bigger budget and of course the CGI has improved over the years so that should be okay.

On Rotten Tomatoes the first and only season reviewed by critics has 50% score, which is not really high. Overal there is a 86% positive reviews from the audience. Sanctuary has also been released on Blu-ray in the US, Germany and Australia. I have the German set myself, region code B, it has English soundtrack but infortunately no English subs, only German subs.
