Primeval premiered on February 10, 2007 in the UK. The last episode aired on June 28, 2011 and it total 36 episodes aired. Primeval had generally favorable reviews and has expanded to an international audience. After the first 3 series there was a gap of almost 2 years! The first episode of series 4 aired on New years day 2011 while the last series 3 episode aired on May 16, 2009. In 2012 there was a short lived spin-off called Primeval: New World, which was a Canadian show.

It has a large cast over five series. I believe only three characters where there from first to last series: Andrew Lee Potts as Connor Temple, Hannah Spearritt as Abby Maitland and Ben Miller as James Lester. Nice detail for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans is that in the 4th and 5th season Alexander Siddig who plays Dr. Bashir in DS9, plays a main character called Philip Burton. It's a treat to say him play this villainous character.

After the third series Primeval was cancelled, mainly because ITV was suffering severe financial troubles in 2009. Still in September 2009 it was announced there would be a 4th and a 5th series starting in 2011 with most of series 3 cast joining. Unfortunately not Laila Rouass, who did not return. I have to say I am not sure if Primeval has been cancelled again or if there status remains open. Just after the 5th series there was talk of a 6th but as you know, it never came to that.

The first 3 seasons have been released on DVD only. The 4th and 5th season, or series as it's usually called in the UK, have been released on DVD and Blu-ray. On Rotten Tomatoes there aren't critic reviewers but audience rating is 74%.
