Last Rewatch: 19/04/2013 - 01/08/2013

Plot (IMDb):

In the future, the human race is living in space stations orbiting a dead Earth. Faced with a debilitating disease attacking her young son, Devon Adair (Debrah Farentino) and a band of non-conformists leave their artificial environment and travel to a distant planet, where they begin a new life for themselves.

Earth 2 premiered on NBC in 1994 on November 6. The final episode aired on June 4, 1995. I've said it many times already, the 1990's was the year we had so much SCI-FI on tv, it really exploded there. Earth 2 was about a group settlers who travel to another planet because Earth is death and they were living on a space station orbiting this death Earth.

I have to confess it's been a long while since I last watched Earth 2. Last time it was in 2013, almost 8 years ago now. I purchased the German DVD set in 2012 and watched it for the third time, for the first time on DVD. It's a good release because it not only has an English soundtrack, it also has English subtitles on it. It took 7 years after the show had been released in the US in 2005! The US set contains 4 dual discs! So on both sides of the discs there are episodes on it. On the German and the UK set it contains 6 disc, no dual discs anymore.

NBC did not air all the episodes in the correct viewing order but in order of production. This is also the case on the region 1 discs, but not the region 2 discs. It's been corrected on the German and UK set.

Earth 2 had a successful premiere, but the ratings soon dropped from 23% share to 9%, so cancellation was inescapable. Not Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager but Devon Adair from Earth 2 was the first female leader on a SCI-FI show.

Unfamiliar to me, till now, was that er even have been released 3 novels of this show! The first one is a novelazation of the premiere, the other two are original stories.

Finally I just want to say about this show that it's good show, some fine casting had been done, most notably of course Tim Curry as Gaal and Terry O'Quin as Reilly. Both recurring characters but made a great impression. Especially Tim Curry's character, oh man what a creepy guy that was.
