Counterpart is a SCI-FI TV triller, starring J.K Simmons. The show was created by Justin Marks. It was broadcast on STARZ, it ran for 20 episodes over 2 seasons. Counterpart premiered on December 10th, 2017 and the final episode aired on February 17, 2019.
Premise:
Counterpart is centered on Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons), a low-level UN bureaucrat in Berlin who discovers his agency oversees a secret crossing to a parallel dimension, created in 1987. He must partner with his "Prime" counterpart, a ruthless spy, to navigate a Cold War between the two worlds.
When STARZ cancelled the show after two seasons, the series' production company, Media Rights Capital, tried to find another home for the show but was unsuccessful. Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch commented on the cancellation, saying Counterpart was "a very male show" and that "we had picked that show up and made a two-season commitment before we'd honed in on this premium female strategy".
Counterpart was very well received by both critics (100%) and audience (85%) on Rotten Tomatoes. On Metacritic the critics and audience both appreciate it equally, 76%.
In North America the first season did get a Blu-ray release, but unfortunately season two has only been released on DVD, no Blu-ray release. (with help from Wiki)
