Last Rewatch: 13/03/2021 -  14/04/2021  /   Galactica 1980: 15/04/2021 - 30/04/2021

Plot continues: Under the command of Commander Adama, the battlestar Galactica leads the remaining Colonial ships into space and seeks out a lost thirteenth colony, which turns out to be Earth. Along the way, the Colonials encounter various races (both friendly and hostile), the legendary human warrior Commander Cain, and the planet Kobol, the motherworld of all the Colonies. All the while, the Cylons - under the command of human traitor Count Baltar - closely pursue this fugitive fleet across the universe.

Battlestar Galactica the original series premiered on September 17th 1978 and ended on April 29th 1979. It lasted 24 episodes only because of a massive fan campaign in 1980, the show was revived as Galactica 80. First and only season contained 10 episodes but was not in the same league as the original series. With other actors accept Lorne Greene as Adama. The last episode of Galactica 80 has Starbuck in it and is without hesitation the best episode of the bunch.

I grew up with Battlestar Galactica, Galactica 80, Buck Rogers, Blake's 7, V, Six Million Dollar Man, The Incredible Hulk, Doctor Who (5th doc) and of course Star Trek TOS. I think at that time, Battlestar Galactica was my favorite show. It obviously was a show which for that time had high production values, one of the reasons BSG 78 got cancelled after one season. The costs were too high. That's why Galactica 80 mosty takes place on Earth. Although Galactica 80 is not that good, more mediocre, I still manage to rewatch it. I guess because it's mostly out of nostalgia.

In the years between Galactica 80 and Ronald D. Moore's reimagined 2003 version Battlestar Galactica, Richard Hatch, who played Apollo in the orginal series, tried to revive the old show BSG 78 a few times. I would have very much like to have seen his version of Battlestar Galactica, but unfortunately he never got it of the ground.

My last rewatch is from 2014 and I am about to restart everything Battlestar Galactica related, except The Plan because it thought is was awful! I will probably start with Caprica and then move on to BSG 78 but I'm not sure yet. On Rotten Tomatoes the original Battlestar Galactica doesn't fare well: Only 32% of the critics were positive about the show, the audience is a bit more lenient, 61%.

Plot (IMDb): The leaders of the Twelve Colonies of Mankind are making plans to sign a peace treaty with their mortal enemies, the Cylon Empire. On the eve of the ceremony, the Cylons betray the pact and destroy most of the Colonies and their entire fleet.
