Intro:
It is that time again, about a year after my previous news and updates blog about our favorite TV shows. As I am writing this, starting on December 12th, there still are a number unknowns about shows like For All Mankind, Dark Matter, Sugar and some uncertainties about other shows. Why o why does this need to take so long, in a recent blog I wrote about my frustrations regarding huge gaps between seasons on streaming platforms. I am probably missing something but why can CBS return within 4-6 months with a new season and is this impossible for streaming platforms? Well, anyway, it sucks big time. Still, again I have lots of information, as always, some of it is already confirmed, some of it is expected, or sometimes it is an (educated) guess of mine regarding the release date of a new show or a new season. Below I’ve added a word document with all the links of the sources for you to check out.
Cancellations / Ending shows:
First show I want to mention is Resident Alien, cancelled after four seasons. First three seasons aired on Syfy, the last season aired on the USA Network. Recently it has been rumored that Netflix, where Resident Alien currently is available for streaming, is considering to give the series closure via a Netflix movie. The Boys is ending in 2026 with its 5th and final season. Here you can find a season 5 trailer. In November 2025, the final season of Stranger Things started on Netflix. The Sandman ended in 2025 with its 2nd season.
Upload was renewed for a final short season 4 by Amazon Prime, which aired in August 2025. The Way Home, which airs on the Hallmark Channel, will end with its 4th season. The 4th season is expected to return in Spring of 2026. Andor’s final season became available in 2025, this is the best Star Wars in 25 years! If you have not yet watched it, please go check it out!
Renewals for 2026 or beyond:
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been renewed for season 4 and a shortened 5th season. Season 5 will only have 6 episodes. In 2026 season four will air and in 2027 season five. Already mentioned in my January 2025 Blog, From has been renewed for season 4, will most likely stream early 2026 and with early I mean, April at the latest. This is an educated guess! Although, this website thinks it won’t return before August 2026! I hope my guess is closer to the truth! I also mentioned Silo’s renewal in previous (January 2025) blog post. You would think that a year later there would be an release date at least, but unfortunately not. Silo has been renewed for 2 seasons in 2024, it will end with season 4. I hoped it would be available for streaming by now, but no news at this time. Looking around on the web, it suggests an April/May 2026 release for season 3. Severance has been renewed for season 3 on March 21st, 2025. Just hope there won’t such a big gap as it was between the first two seasons, 2.5 years! Expected release of season 3 is not before summer of 2027. The Last of Us has been renewed for season 3, which is planned for a 2027 release. It could be one longer season or two shorter seasons.
The Netflix show the 3 Body Problem has been renewed for two seasons! However the catch is that the two seasons only consist of 11 episodes! Season 2 is at the moment slated for 2026 (probably late), but this could easily change to 2027! Murderbot, the 25-minute long show has been renewed for season two by Apple+. No word yet when we can expect the second season, but most likely it will not arrive until the second part of 2026 or more likely, early 2027. Daredevil: Born Again has been renewed for two seasons! Season two is expected to arrive in March 2026, season 3 is expected to be released in March 2027. Dune: Prophecy was renewed in December 2024 for a second season. Season two will most likely return late 2026, or early 2027. The Mandalorian returns as a feature film on May 26th, 2026. I wasn’t impressed with the trailer but perhaps it will surprise me and I will enjoy it. I would much rather have seen a 4th season. Foundation will also return for a 4th season, renewed in 2025. Looking at the history of Foundation’s season release dates, it seems to indicate that the 4th season won’t arrive before 2027. Hopefully this isn’t the case for season 4.
The Ark has been renewed for a 3rd season. I tried it myself with the first season but after two episodes I stopped watching, it was simply too cringy. Later I learned that it does become better in later episodes and season two. I have not yet decided if I should try again. The Ark season 3 is expected to return in 2026. Sugar has been renewed for season two, news that I already was able to share in my last updates blog from January 2025. Unfortunately, at this time, still no news when season two will arrive, quite possibly late 2026 or early 2027. Sugar was renewed in October 2024! Fallout has been released by Amazon Prime in December 2025. Fallout has also been renewed already for a 3rd season. Filming for season three is expected to start halfway through 2026. Ahsoka has been renewed for season two in 2023 already. From a You Tuber I learned that filming was wrapped up in October 2025, post production has begun. According to him, it could take another 10-12 months before we can see Ahsoka on our screens. So, if he is correct, don’t expect to see Ahsoka before the fall of 2026.
Another show which I would expected to see in 2025 but still no release date announced is For All Mankind. This has been renewed in April 2024, so, 20 months ago, just preposterous. It will most likely will be released in 2026. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters finally did get a release date, this will be released on Apple+ in February 26th, 2026. Click on the link to check out the season two trailer and the article. There is also talk of spinoffs in the first article. Dark Matter is also a show that has been renewed in the summer of 2024, yet, till now, still no release date for season two has been announced but it is now expected it will return mid-2026. Twisted Metal has been renewed for season 3 in November 2025. I loved the first season, didn’t like season two as much, hopefully season three will be as exciting as season one. I don’t think Twisted Metal will return in 2026, my guess is around the summer of 2027. Alien: Earth has been renewed for season two in November 2025. I thought it was kind of interesting, but it also was a bit of a mess. Sloppy writing, two dimensional characters, huge plot holes etc. Still, I am hoping for a better season two. Season two will most likely also not be released in 2026, expecting a late 2027 release date, but it is also possible, because of extensive post-production, we won’t see it before 2028! Black Mirror has been renewed for its 8th series. This has been officially announced on January 9th, 2026.
Future unknown (too early to tell):
Peacemaker had its 2nd season in 2025 but it is unlikely that there will be a 3rd season. The characters apparently will reprise their roles in other shows and movies. In the final episode a possible spin-off has been set up. Still unclear if Doctor Who continue as a TV series, in any case Disney Plus will no longer finance a new series. I stopped watching Doctor Who years ago, series nine with Peter Capaldi was my last series. With my last rewatch, series seven with Matt Smith was my final one. While I am writing this, it is also not yet confirmed if Invasion gets renewed for a season four. The final episode streamed on October 24th, 2025, and apparently the show does quite well on Apple+. No word about a season 3 for Gen V, season two streamed a few months back on Amazon Prime. It is possible that the suits will wait after season five of The Boys is finished for the decision to renew this one. Still no news about a 4th season of The Orville, although Seth MacFarlane says it will be back. And well, Babylon 5, I consider this dead in the water. Although, check out these two video’s (one, two), it would not be my preference.
New shows:
Well two new shows recently started, first one is Plur1bus with Rhea Seehorn in the lead role, created by Vince Gilligan (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad). This show is already guaranteed for two seasons, so that is good to know. The other one is a Doctor Who spin-off called The War Between the Land and the Sea. The first episode aired on December 7th, the last one aired on December 21st , 2025. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will be available on January 15th, 2026 with its first season. Academy is also guaranteed for two seasons, that is, if season one doesn’t gigantically flop. I for one will skip this so called Star Trek show. Wonder man is close by with a premiere on Disney on January 28. The spin-off from The Handmaid’s Tale is called The Testaments, it is expected to arrive in April 2026 on Hulu. Lanterns will most likely arrive early to mid 2026, production began February 2025, it stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler and Nathan Fillion will also appear in the show. More than a year ago, August 2024, it was announced that Pacific Rim Origin would come to our screens, a sort of spin-off from the movies, currently still in development.
Star City, the spin-off from For All Mankind, is expected to be released no earlier than summer 2026, possibly end 2026 or early 2027. Filming for the first season started in February 2025 and wrapped in August 2025. Life is Strange, based on the video game franchise has been ordered by Amazon. After Gen V, there will be a 2nd and a 3rd spin-off from The Boys! First one is called The Boys: Mexico, executive producers are Diego Luna (Andor) and Gael García. The second is one called Vought Rising with Jensen Ackles as the lead. There is a Barb Wire series in the works, from Pamela Anderson’s company. She won’t be in it herself. Blade Runner 2099 is supposed to be released in 2026 on Amazon Prime. It appears to be a limited series (or miniseries) and it stars Michelle Yeoh. This was delayed for a year. Another new show has been announced from the DCU, show called DC Crime. A V For Vendetta TV Series In the works At HBO and reportedly there will also be a spin-off (or not?) from Stranger Things. Not sure if I should write this up under Rumors… or New shows, given its initial news was back in December 2022, but apparently The Dark Tower TV series is still in development! I saved the best one for last, but I don’t think this will be news to you! I of course am talking about Stargate! On November 19th it was announced that finally Stargate would return on Amazon Prime. Best part, it won’t be a reboot and the creators from the original Stargate shows are back for this one. I don’t think we can get any luckier, especially since we saw what happened with shows like Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who.
Rumors, Bargains and Lies:
Yes, the old rumor mill, I only have a few because I no longer want to mention Battlestar Galactica, Galaxy Quest and Buck Rogers. No until I hear something new about it. The first one is Star Trek: United, pitched by Scott Bakula himself and Mike Sussman. This certainly would be interesting to see. The Next one is a Space: Above and Beyond reboot. This is something I really would like to see. Loved the original and a reboot makes more sense now than a continuation I think. There is also talk of a TV show that would involve The Knight Rider, possibly also Six Million Dollar Man and Airwolf. It sounds interesting, but I have my doubts if this is feasible. These projects have not been announced officially, so that’s why to me, these are rumors, nothing more.
Sci-Fi TV Shows on Blu-ray / 4K in 2025:
Well, 2025 had some interesting releases regarding TV shows on 4K and Blu-ray! The Knight Rider , the complete series, was released in 4K! It already was released on Blu-ray. The set looks really nice, I have yet to see it myself on 4K, hopefully I will get around watching it in 2026. Blake’s 7 – Series Two has been released on Blu-ray in November in the UK and in December in North America and Australia. Really looking forward to watch series two in the coming weeks! Another surprise release was Space Precinct! A show that only ran for one season, created by Gerry Anderson and aired in 1994-1995. I want this set for myself, but currently the price is too high for me, but it could mean that at one point it is harder to get, but that is a risk I am willing to take, because I like it, but it wasn’t the greatest show and I do have it on DVD. Lois & Clark has also been released in 2025. Really liked that show when it originally aired, I think I’ve watched all episodes minus a few perhaps. Still, I am not sure if I will purchase it. Manifest the complete series has also been released in 2025. I liked the show, watched it during its original run, but I don’t think I have any interest in watching this again. Still, it is good that there are still releases like this. Here you see what other TV shows got a release last year. Shows like the original Doctor Who, The Ark, The Last of Us, Space 1999, Twisted Metal and so on.
Anniversaries 2025 / 2026
Well finally I wanted to tell you about some anniversaries we’ve had in 2025 and also inform you about some anniversaries we will see in 2026! Star Trek: Voyager celebrated its 30th anniversary in January 2025! Space 1999 celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025! Rewatched the show in 2025, really enjoyed it. UFO turned 55 in 2025, I also watched this show, for the first time in 2025! The Invisible Man (2000) turned 25 in 2025. Definitely a favorite of mine. A show has yet to be released on DVD as a complete series! Only season one has been released. Another favorite SCI-FI show of mine is Dark Matter, created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie.
In 2025 Dark Matter celebrated its 10th anniversary. Another favorite of The Expanse, on December 14th, 2025 it too celebrated its 10th anniversary. In 2026 Star Trek: Enterprise will celebrate its 25th anniversary. Person of Interest will turn 15 in 2026. The Pretender will turn 30 in 2026, yes, another favorite of mine. Many more shows like Smallville, Terra Nova, Eureka, Torchwood will have anniversaries in 2026. Like you are accustomed by now, there will be a list of anniversaries on the Blog page and on The Overview of Sci-fi TV Shows in Alphabetical order.
Final Word:
I hope I’ve been complete, if not, be sure to let me know in the comments section. If I learn new streaming or air dates, I will add it in the comments section here also. Hopefully you have found it an interesting read and did you learn some new information. Because of streaming platforms it is no use to do this more than once a year because they take so long for a (new) season to complete, so therefore I think it is best to keep this a yearly event.
