2025/08/XX
First Wave first aired in 1998, it ran for 3 seasons after it was cancelled after its third season. I haven't seen First Wave since it originally aired on TV back in 1998 to 2001. I found it an interesting TV show although I do think that the first season is the best and the last season was my least favorite.
In 2011 the first season already was released in North America but unfortunately it wasn't follow-up with seasons two and three. Plus the North American release is no longer available, most likely out of print. So when Pidax released the first season back in November 2024, it immediately alerted me. I did not purchase it but was keeping an eye on it, hoping the following seasons would also get a DVD release. Sadly, till now, some 8-9 months later, this hasn't happened yet and I don't think the other two seasons will not be released on DVD. Still, on July 11th, 2025, the set was in discount, so I decided to go for it.
It is a nice set, some nice art, the discs themselves look nice, although the print on the discs is the same. It is a decent set but Pidax made a big mistake, on the back-side (and the discs, as you can see below, Tracy Lords' character prominently present, but she only joined the show during the third season, she wasn't a cast member before that time! How dumb it that? Stargate SG1 all over again!

As said, it is a nice set, it is a 4-disc set, what is nice about the disc print is that the episodes are also printed on them, in German, but also in English. Apologies beforehand about the photo's, they are not always clear. What is a shame is that there are no subtitles on in, no German but also no English. It is a region two set and this set is most likely unplayable in other region DVD / Blu-ray players. If needed, I can check this for you.
Also on the inner print, on the lefthand side, you see Tracy Lords' character prominently present, as you can see this the same as the back cover of the DVD. On the righthand side of the inner print, you see the 3 lead characters, which indeed is the same as the front cover.

Final Word:
So, here you go, no longer available in North America, but still available in Germany. It was a niche little show that had to complete against the big shows like Star Trek: Voyager, Farscape, The X-Files, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and a few others. It did get 3 seasons but there it ended and I don't think it got a satisfying ending either. I just finally purchased it because I do like the show and mainly the first season.
